I came of age during the Civil Rights movement and the anti-war movement. I went to law school after working toward a doctorate in psychology because I believed there were great injustices in the world and that lawyers were the people trying to right them. I started the practice of law in the NJ Office of the Public Defender where I expected to defend the Constitution, and learned that the day to day practice of criminal defense law was much more mundane. After a few years I turned to private practice where my focus was largely on family issues. I started with a divorce practice that moved into estate planning and planning for the elderly and disabled. My aim has always been to help people find what is right for them and their families and to try to approach that goal. I try to guide clients into recognizing that their own self interests may be best served when considering the interests of others; that trying to do the right thing for all concerned will bring better results than simply trying to win. I still aim at finding justice on the small playing field of the families I work with rather than the more global playing field that first brought me to the practice of law.
